Tips for Preparing your Child for Kindergarten
Practice letter recognition (both uppercase and lowercase letters)
Practice letter sounds (including short and long vowel sounds)
Practice writing first and last name using uppercase and lowercase letters
Recognize and write numbers from 1-20 while understanding one to one correspondence (matching number to quantity)
Practice grip with pencil, crayon, or markers and using scissors, glue, and paint
Encourage your child’s pre reading skills by reading together and having discussions about what you read
Create flashcards using Dolch PrePrimer Sight Words (see attached)
Introduce your child to word families (at, et, un, etc.)
Introduce you child to rhyming words
